UPDATE (8:18 pm): The State Police have just released a press release stating they have found remains but could not positively identify the remains at this time. The remains have been transported to the Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Burlington for identification and for an autopsy to determine cause and manner of death.

State Police said earlier today that they were continuing their search for Austin Colson, focusing on the Beaver Meadow area in Sharon and Norwich. At around 3 pm, the focus of the police shifted to an old barn at 714 Beaver Meadow Road, in Norwich.

Austin Colson, a South Royalton resident, has been reported missing since January 11, 2018. His trailer was found on Downer Road, in Sharon, a few miles from the Beaver Meadow property in Norwich. His family, friends, and police have been searching the area extensively, but the winter months have slowed the search. Dan Trudeau, Captain for the Major Crime Unit, said that the search was scheduled for today, but it had now converged on the barn behind the Beaver Meadow Rd house.

Trudeau could not tell me if they had indeed found Austin Colson but said that the potential evidence they have found is in the barn. The Vermont Urban Search and Rescue team as well as Colchester Technical Rescue team were still working at 6 pm on making the barn stable. "It's been the biggest issue, it's a very unstable barn, and we don't want anyone getting hurt," said Trudeau.
