Mystery Bench in Hanover
A bench has appeared on the corner of Lebanon and Crosby Streets, just across from the football stadium.
So much change in downtown Hanover, some of it miserable according to many, like the demise of businesses like EBA and more recently, Rambler’s Way.
Such a delight then, to bump into this particular work on a Hanover sidewalk, all touchably smooth granite with a small, circular adornment to arrest the rectangular lines.
I have shared the existence of this bench with several people, asked some questions, received some responses. So far, no answers. When did this appear? Did someone construct and install it in the dead of night? Does the circle have significance?
Do you know anything about this bench? If so, leave a comment below.
UPDATE: Based upon several comments here and on Facebook pages, it appears that this bench has been at its present location for at least a few years. Thanks to people who posted photos found on Google Earth. One commenter believes it was an art project by a Dartmouth student. Any further information, especially about who designed it, is appreciated.
