On the heels of the Joint Statement sent the Selectboard on Thursday, the Upper Valley Land Trust (UVLT) on Friday turned down the proposal by Norwich Farm Creamery to remain at Norwich Farms after the Land Trust buys the property, according to a Valley News story published that day. Litigation may be on the horizon. The news report quotes counsel for the Creamery saying the lease it has with Vermont Technical College is valid and enforceable.

In UVLT Rejects Norwich Creamery Plea by Valley News Staff Writer Rob Wolfe, the story reports that UVLT could not subsidize the Creamery plan:

[The Land Trust] on Friday informed the creamery owners, Chris Gray and Laura Brown, that UVLT was rejecting their proposal to continue their business on the property. The land trust cannot accept proposals that do not pay for themselves, because its nonprofit tax exemption depends on spending charitable dollars for charitable purposes, UVLT Executive Director Jeanie McIntyre said.
