Just before 2 p.m. the Vermont State Police began receiving 911 calls reporting that more than one person had been injured in the single-vehicle mishap, Trooper Joseph Pregent reported.

The small purple 2006 Chevy HHR retro-styled station wagon was being driven by Norman Hebert, 67, of Manchester, New Hampshire and state police said he was transported to the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center along with Josanne Hebert who later died there later in the afternoon as a result of her injuries.

Conditions on the interstate Sunday were poor due to the persistent sleet and ice.

Hartford firefighters responded to the scene, which was just north of Mile Marker 3, along with an ambulance crew from neighboring Lebanon, New Hampshire.

The crash remains under investigation by the Vermont State Police.
