Worth Knowing: Caribbean food in Hanover at Leya's Island Grill

Does lightning strike twice? Apparently yes. We wrote about a new Caribbean takeout place in Lebanon just over a week ago. Well it's come to our attention that there's a new Caribbean restaurant in Hanover.

Leya's Island Grill opened its doors for business on March 6. It's located at 6 Allen Street in the space most recently occupied by Kata Thai and a long time ago by Bagel Basement. While the menu right now features some dishes that fuse Caribbean and Thai cuisine, within the next few weeks the Thai flavors will be phased out. The top selling items are the Jerk Chicken, BBQ Chicken Pineapple Fried Rice and Mango Salad. Leya's serves fresh pineapple juice and peanut punch, in addition to bottled fruit drinks like mango, guava. Owner Gayann Letman is applying for a beer and wine license. Both Letman and Chef Shamar Shan hail from Jamaica.

Hanover has plenty of international cuisines to choose from. It's nice to add Caribbean to the list.
