Richard Freed’s Book Sheds Important Light on Raising Children in a Digital Age
In his book Wired Child, Dr. Richard
Freed wrote, “Kids’ use of technology is not the problem. The problem is our
kids’ extreme overuse of entertainment technologies that is displacing
the experiences that are fundamental to a strong mind and happy, successful
life.” Freed examines these issues both as a psychologist and a parent with the
goal of helping other adults feel less alone as they support children who
experience problems resulting from the overuse of technology. Freed goes
on to write, “More than ever, our kids need us to be their guide, to help them
on their journey . . .” Throughout each chapter of his book, Freed sheds
light on digital myths and suggests strategies to provide children with a
“. . . loving, rewarding childhood amid the challenges of this digital age.“
Dr. Freed will be presenting to the community at Crossroads Academy in Lyme, NH, on Monday, April 23, from 6:30–8:00 pm. The address is free and open to the public.
