Worth Knowing: Welch's True Value Hardware Store in West Woodstock to close
Another casualty of the Amazon effect . . .
After 22 years in business, owners Charlie and Kathy Welch are closing their West Woodstock True Value Hardware store. The Welches will consolidate operations in their South Royalton True Value Hardware location. Charlie Welch says sales have just not kept up with expenses and suspects Amazon is the culprit. "I don't know whether I can prove it, but I'm sure Amazon has something to do with it." The Welch's have placed much of the West Woodstock inventory on sale in anticipation of closing.
This is starting to look like a sad trend in Upper Valley hardware stores. Last year two other hardware stores closed - Enfield Hardware in Enfield and Bisbee's Hardware in Randolph.
