Worth Knowing: Dead Man Walking author to speak on death penalty at Dismas House event

Sister Helen Prejean, author of Dead Man Walking: An Eyewitness Account of the Death Penalty in the United States, will deliver the keynote speech at a special Dismas House event on April 29. The event, 2018 Celebration, will be held at 5:00 pm at the Fireside Inn at 25 Airport Road in West Lebanon. The mission of Dismas House is to reconcile former prisoners with society and society with former prisoners. Dismas House is a supportive community for former prisoners transitioning from incarceration. Dismas recruits university/college students, as well as other volunteers, to live in the House as in the original Dismas model. Living in community accomplishes the Dismas mission of reconciliation.

Dead Man Walking was made into a movie in 1995. Susan Sarandon won an Oscar for Best Actress for her portrayal of Sister Prejean who helps to see a death row murderer played by Sean Penn see the error of his ways.
