Every month, we offer wines you'll have a hard time finding anywhere else -- and at prices that are hard to beat. On Elm Street, in Norwich, VT.
Here are this month's choices:
2016 Gruner Veltliner, Anton Bauer "Gmork", Wagram, Austria $12.99
Dry, crisp, and full of minerality, this classic single-vineyard Gruner Veltliner shows layers of flavor and represents outstanding value. Pairing well with a wide range of foods, it even stands up to such challenging dishes as asparagus. If your experience with this grape is limited to simple, inexpensive versions, the small step up to this will bring greater rewards than the few extra dollars would suggest!
2014 Pinot Noir, Brandborg, Umpqua Valley, Oregon $16.99
By now most wine lovers are aware of the tremendous quality available in Pinot Noir from Oregon. Unfortunately, they often come with price tags that keep them out of the range for anything but very special occasions. From the Umpqua Valley, south of the better-known Willamette Valley, this bright, aromatic example has enough body and flavor to avoid seeming thin or harsh, yet remains unmistakably Pinot Noir.
