Fourteen Year Old Girl Arrested in Brantford, Ontario

The teen has been formally charged with posting a threat via the popular Instagram photo-sharing website by creating a page entitled "hanoverhighshooting" which began coming to the attention of students in the Upper Valley just before 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

"With assistance from Lebanon Police Sgt. Richard Norris, the threat was tracked to a residence in Canada.  In cooperation with Canadian law enforcement a search of that residence was conducted and electronic devices were seized," Hanover Police Chief Charles Dennis noted in a press release that was issued Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday afternoon the Hanover Police Department released a few additional details saying that authorities in Brantford, Ontario, which is a small municipality some 75 miles to the west of Niagara Falls, had arrested a teen girl there and are pursuing charges against her in their jurisdiction.

Police are still working to determine whether there was any actual connection between the girl and the town of Hanover or whether she just picked up on recent news coverage of Hanover High's "Walkout" in support of nationwide school safety efforts in the wake of the violence in Parkland, Florida last month.

"At this time we are not aware of any connection," the chief said in the afternoon press release.

"We would like to thank the local community members who have contacted us offering information as well as the law enforcement agencies who have provided assistance with this investigation," Chief Dennis noted.
