Ken Blaisdell is a familiar face in downtown White River Junction. His shop, Lampscapes, has occupied a storefront on Gates Street since 1997. His lampshades are easily identifiable in various downtown businesses. I bet you’ve already seen some of Ken’s work if you’ve been into the Upper Valley Food Co-op or the lobby in the Hotel Coolidge.
The shop across from Northern Stage is a mix of showroom and production studio. If you happen by on a warm day the doors will be open to the gallery and studio. You might see Ken behind the workbench constructing shades on a large, green, metal machine or painting the blank three dimensional canvases. The walls display a colorful array of shades. The subject matter spans from seascapes to figures to more abstract art. Each shade is one of a kind and handmade in his downtown shop.
Along with lampshades, Ken has designed a pretty slick reading lamp. He has the lamps machined to utilize a three axis articulating arm for ease and functionality. These lamps generally feature an automobile brake rotor as the weighted base. In fact, many of the lamps at the shop carry this element of reuse. Anyone who’s in the market for a lamp, Ken gives folks personal attention to help select the best option for your situation. You also will have the advantage of choosing a unique lampshade that fits you!
