A pair of Hunter's lead the Canes to victory

By John Seaver

After a lackluster first half in which Hartford committed 14 turnovers, the Hurricane boys basketball team stormed out of the locker room and lit up the scoreboard in the third quarter scoring 30 points to extend a 6 point halftime lead to 24 to give them a commanding 52-28 lead heading to the fourth quarter.  Hunter Gaudette knocked down four shots from beyond the arc and scored 14 of his game high 22 points in the third quarter to lead the Hurricane surge.

Asked about what message he gave to his team at halftime coach Steve Landon said "We talked about calming down and taking care of the basketball.  Once we got settled into running our sets successfully, open shots developed and tonight we were lucky enough to make some of those shots."

Senior Hunter Perkins was also a key part of the third quarter surge knocking down 2 shots from deep and scoring 9 of his 15 points in the frame and kept the ball moving in the offense with several nice passes.  Patrick Brady added 12 points and Joe Batchelder had 8 for the Canes.  Ryan Kelly led the visiting Terriers with 12 points with McGregor Vancor, Griffin Waryas and Shane Clark all chipping in 6 each.

With the win, Hartford improves to 4-8 on the season while the Terriers fall to 3-8.  The two teams meet again Thursday night at Bellows Falls to make up a game postponed due to weather. "I expect a very tough game at Bellows Falls.  Most of my team has never played there." said coach Landon.

Category 5 Hurricane Player of the Game: Hunter. That's right, Hunter, as in Gaudette and Perkins.  The pair of senior Hunters combined for 37 points (23 in the 3rd quarter) while shooting 7-13 from deep.
