The Zollikofer Gallery in The Hotel Coolidge will present the work of Cecily Herzig through March 31, 2018. Dark Botanicals and Swamp Nonsense is a collection of new paintings by Ms. Herzig, whose work has undergone a recent significant change in style and subject matter. This is her first solo gallery show since 2014.
The public is invited to the artist reception on February 2, from 5pm - 7pm at The Hotel Coolidge, 39 S Main St, White River Junction, VT. This event is being held in conjunction with a wider number of events that are part of the White River Junction First Friday series.
This show is a collection of partial truths and hidden creatures. The interaction of color is always a deliberate focus of Ms. Herzig’s. This show, Dark Botanicals and Swamp Nonsense, highlights her experimentation both with color and printmaking techniques applied to painting, resulting in richly layered surfaces teaming with graphically recognizable and mysterious images. Ms. Herzig’s work has been described as, “...sassy with color, [she is] an alchemist of shapes and inspires people to eat clouds on rainy days.”
Ms. Herzig graduated from Mount Holyoke College with a dual degree in Studio Art and Geography. Her work hangs in the headquarters of the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund in New York City and has been sold in fundraisers by the Human Rights Campaign. Ms. Herzig’s work also hangs in several Pompanoosuc Mills showrooms, private collections throughout the United States and Europe.
