I asked Dan Fraser some questions about the Ante-up project. Here are his responses and a short story

Where did you get the idea for this?

I got the idea after seeing a deck of cards about the different places on The Appalachian Trail and knew that Norwich needed this.

What were some of the next steps to turn this idea into reality?

I then called the company to find out details/pricing.  I talked to Doug Lufkin to see if he would help with design/photos, etc.  Next step was to approach Mascoma Savings Bank and ask for sponsorship to lower cost.  (They agreed)

Dan approached area businesses/organizations to ask if they would purchase the cards. (The Jokers in the deck are represented by Chad Finer's photo of the people of the village.))

Dan provided me with the following details of the project

“A HUGH, HUGE Thank you to Mascoma Savings Bank for underwriting the cost of this project, so that it would be affordable for local businesses to participate, without their support, we would not be playing with a full deck! Mascoma Savings Bank also provided support for many non-profits who otherwise would not have been able to have a card in this project. This is just one of the many ways that Mascoma Savings Bank supports Norwich and the Upper Valley.

Also, much thanks to Doug Lufkin of Lufkin Graphic Design, who did the layout, copy and design as well as some of the photography for the project, without his excellent skills- the deck would have been simply black and white, dull and not nearly as creative. Thank you Doug!

These decks of cards are a limited edition of 2,500 decks and once they sell out they will not be reproduced so act now to be certain you have this unique deck of cards.

Each Norwich Antes Up custom deck of cards sells for $10.00 each and 100% of the money will be divided equally to support the following non-profits: The Norwich Public Library; Hartford-Norwich Holiday Basket Helpers; The Norwich Pageant; The Family Place; Child and Family Services

One final note of interest-- The extremely generous Jack and Dorothy Byrne Foundation will match ALL, yes, ALL money raised by the sale of these 2,500 decks of cards, doubling the amount of money each non-profit receives!!! Thank you doesn't begin to express how this act by The Byrne Foundation will impact these organizations.

Thank you to all of the following businesses/organizations who are represented in the deck:
