Grandma The Clown Taught At Norwich Circus Camp

No inappropriate behavior reported

Disgraced “Grandma” the Clown taught at the annual Summer Circus Camp held in Norwich Vermont according to a press release issued by the Town on Friday, January 26. Barry Lubin, a/k/a Grandma the Clown resigned from the Big Apple Circus after it was revealed that he pressured a 16-year-old aerialist into posing for pornographic photos in 2004. Yesterday I posted about Lubin’s connection to Circus Smirkus.

The Norwich press release stated that Lubin served as a a visiting performer at the Norwich camp “over the years”. It goes on to note that "Circus Camp performers, including Mr. Lubin, always are in a group situation, always are in a public place, [and] always are under the supervision of Ted Lawrence,” who heads the camp. The Town has “has no reason to suspect Mr. Lubin carried out activity other than teaching proper Circus techniques during the periods he participated in the Circus Camp, nor, to the Town’s knowledge, was any complaint made regarding any inappropriate behavior.” The Town of Norwich encourages individuals that believe Mr. Lubin acted inappropriately to contact the Norwich Police Department (802-649-1460).

The annual Circus Camp sponsored by the Town Recreation Program and coordinated by Ted Lawrence – performer and teacher with decades of experience and, fondly, known as “Dr. Quark” – is a camp led by an incredible staff of Circus professionals having experience in a broad range of Circus disciplines to maximize youth learning and fun, said the Town.
