Out To Breakfast? Why Does The Congressman Bring His Own Maple Syrup?

Some take clothes and a toothbrush when they need to go somewhere. Apparently Peter Welch adds Vermont maple syrup to his packing list.

The congressman was spotted out to breakfast in Washington with a bottle of maple syrup from Richardson Farm in Hartland.

“I never have syrup from other states,” Welch recently told Roll Call. “It wins awards, so it’s not just me being the Vermont chauvinist for the maple sugar industry. Vermont, it really is the biggest producer.”

Richardson Farm is a family farm in Hartland that’s been around since 1907. In addition to maple syrup, the farm sells milk and custom split-rail fencing.

Does anyone else travel with maple syrup?
