Enjoy the Snow: Winter Festivals 2018

Hop in the car and explore one or more of these fun festivals (all within 1 hr. 1/2 drive).  Take the kids, a friend, loved one, or just meander by yourself.  Let's embrace the snow and fall in love with New England all over again.

Stowe Winter Carnival.   Saturday, Jan 13 - Saturday, Jan. 27th, 2017.  kids carnival, ice carving, snow golf, karoake, volleyball, pub trivia, Hollywood Squares Stowe style, and more.  

Jackson Snow Sculptures. Starts Friday, Jan 26, 2018 12 pm at Black Mountain Ski Area.  The competition finishes Sun. the 28 at noon.  There will be at least 12 completed projects.  Events during the weekend include a torch light parade, Skimo race, scavenger hunt, and more.  It's free to view the scupltures.  Completed sculptures can be viewed the week after as well.

New London Winter Carnival.  Thursday - Saturday, February 1-3, 2018.  Events include wagon rides, snow sculptures, ice fishing clinic, Colby Sawyer basketball games, fireworks, snow shoeing, and more.

Keene Fire and Ice.  This free event takes place on Saturday, Feb. 3rd, 2018.  Snowball fights, hot cocoa, and ice scultpures await you.  

Dartmouth Winter Carnival. Thurs. Feb. 8- Sun. Feb. 11th, 2018. This year's theme is "Snow Wars: May the Frost be With You." Festival goers last year enjoyed roasted marshmallows, an ice scultpure competition, sofa races, broom hockey, and a polar bear plunge at the Occum Pond Party. There were skiing relays, and slaloms at Craftsbury Outdoor Center.  Check the website as they update this year's events.  Here are photos from last year.

Newport Winter Carnival. Thurs. Feb. 8- Sun. Feb. 11th, 2018. This year's theme is "Life is Sweet." On Sat. enjoy a snow softball tournament, games on the common like turkey bowling and wife carry, horse drawn wagon rides, a parade, lifesize Candylane game, sliding, winter golf, and town vs. school basketball games.  Activities abound on Thurs., Friday, and Sunday too.  You may need to hop in the car if you plan to participate in different activities.

Igloo Build at the Montshire. Sat. Feb. 17th, 2018 at 10:30 am - 2 pm.  Dr. Bert Yankielun, an engineer and author of a book on igloo building, will lead demonstrations on how to build a sturdy igloo.  Kids will also be able to build their own igloo using the techniques they've learned.  This event is free with admission, which is $13-16 per person

Woodstock Snow Flurry. Friday - Sunday, Feb. 16-18, 2018. on the green.  Professional snow sculpters will create works of art out of snow.  The winner will be announced on Sunday at 12:30 pm.  Viewing is free.

Brattleboro Winter Carnival Saturday - Sunday, Feb 17-25, 2018.  Last year's events included cooking classes, sleigh rides, movie for kids, puppet show, fishing derby, pageant, figure skating show, snowmobile rides, murder mystery dinner, and more.  Activities cost $3-$8 (except dinner).

Stratton Mtn. Snowboard Fest.  Friday, March 9 - Sunday, March 11th, 2018.   This is an open competition for all ages to compete for thousands of dollars.   There will be music in the evening.  Later in the month there's the annual pond skim, and Mardi Gras village winterfest.
