2nd Structure Fire in a Week in City

The Claremont Fire Department responded to its second structure fire in less than one week today, Jan. 8th.  Fire crews responded to 1 Camden Ave. for a reported building fire, called in at 2:24 p.m. First arriving crews were on scene at 2:27 p.m.  Fire involved the basement of the structure and extended severe heat and smoke damage throughout the first floor of the structure, reported Claremont Fire Chief Bryan Burr.  No one was home at the time.  No injuries were reported.  However, two pets perished in the fire.

Departments from Ascutney, Cornish and Newport covered the station.The fire was called under control at 2:52 p.m.

The cause has not been determined at press time as investigators remain on scene sifting through the rubble.
