Agenda Item For January 11 School Board Meeting

Same cell antenna, same location, different board. This time, Verizon Wireless wants the Norwich School Board to approve the antenna for the Norwich Green and grant an easement in perpetuity. See prior posts here, here, and here The matter is likely an action item for the School Board meeting on January 11.

No zoning rules apply to this installation, although as the property owner, the School Board can presumably say no, for any reason or for no reason. This is a cookie cutter installation for Verizon Wireless which has received at least a dozen rubber stamp approvals from the Vermont PUC in 2017. The School Board needs to be sufficiently informed to make a decision in the best interests of the school and taxpayers, not only with respect to the look and location, but also whether the business terms make sense.  I plan to post soon regarding items I hope the Norwich School Board considers, but I am no expert.

Based on comments of the Verizon Wireless representative at the December 6 School Board meeting, the proposed structure and easement are likely the same that what was before the Selectboard in November. The plans provided to the Selectboard are located here. Apparently, the telecom has determined that the School District owns the property on which the Verizon Wireless wants to mount the replacement pole. I asked Verizon Wireless if it still needed Selectboard approval. The company did not reply.
