By John Seaver
It may have been freezing cold outside, but inside Woodstock's Dailey Gymnasium the Hurricanes and Otters started hot knocking down 7 three pointers in a high scoring first quarter the Canes would lead 22-20. Hartford's Hunter Gaudette went 3 for 3 from deep in the quarter and 5 of 7 for the game scoring a game high 21 points to lead the Canes to a 61-51 win in the consolation game of the Marble Valley League East vs West Tournament.
After committing 21 turnovers in Wednesday's opening round loss vs Woodstock, the Canes tightened up their game against the Otters with only 7 turnovers and shot the ball much better. "We played better today on the offensive end making some shots when we needed them. We played very good at the start of the game." said coach Steve Landon. The Canes got offensive contributions from Joe Batchelder, Alex Valley & Pat Brady who each added 11 points.
Added Landon "We still need to take better shots down the stretch but overall a solid effort going into the new year."
Otter Valley was led by their guard tandem of Joshua Letourneau and Dylan Mackie who both scored 15 points.
The win improves Hartford's record to 2-4 and drops Otter Valley to 2-3 on the season. The Canes host rival Windsor next Wednesday.
