And Peyton Place nears its 25th anniversary.

Changes, and more good eats, in Upper Valley restaurants. Make a New Year’s resolution that you’ll want to keep and mark your calendar for mid-January when Ariana’s (on Route 10 in Orford NH for the last 6 years) moves to the Lyme Inn. Executive Chef/Owner Martin Murphy aims to open in Lyme soon.  (Ariana’s Facebook page is keeping patrons up to date.) Ariana’s will be one of three Lyme restaurants surrounding the town green, including the ever popular Stella’s and the still newish Latham House Tavern.

Farm-to-table has become an overworked descriptor, but Ariana’s, known for its fine cuisine, was the real deal; its location in Orford was actually on a farm. Even with its new in-town site, it plans to continue its emphasis on local, fresh food and seasonal menus.

Other culinary news: If you were a fan of the Perfect Pear of a few years ago in Bradford VT, former owner Adam Coulter is joining Canoe Club in Hanover NH as its Executive Chef. He is demonstrating his culinary skills with a special New Year’s Eve menu.

Peyton Place, about to celebrate its 25th year in the Upper Valley, is staying put in Orford NH. Owners Jim and Heidi Peyton will be taking a sabbatical for 9 weeks, closing the restaurant after Valentine’s Day, and reopening on April 19, 2018. They want to use the time to refresh the menu and tweak the decor. Here’s hoping that the traditional chalkboard menus remain.
