5 Favorite Holiday Songs from The Skinny Pancake!
Some less than 'classic' classics...
Over the course of this holiday season, most of us will inevitably find ourselves enjoying a Holiday tune or two. Some of us may even be asked to perform the daunting task of DJ. While some of us can't always appreciate the overwhelming cheer of a seasonally appropriate jingle, I simply think they haven't heard the right song to turn their grinch-ness into yuletide-ness.
So here they are, in no particular order, some tunes you perhaps haven't heard before, to go along with your classics like 'Jingle Bell Rock' and 'Little Drummer Boy'.
1. The Kinks - "Father Christmas"
The British rockers tell a wonderfully heartwarming tale about a pack of youngsters who beat up and rob a department store Santa.
2. Loretta Lynn - "To Heck With Ole Santa Claus"
A bit of a bah humbug tune by the Country legend. Notable for her volition to hit Santa in his "ho, ho, ho." Feel free to recycle that line this holiday season when you've tired of your relatives.
3. Sufjan Stevens - "Come On! Let's Boogey to the Elf Dance"
For those of you that aren't familiar with Sufjan Stevens, this dude loves Christmas. All told, over the course of two Holiday themed albums, Sufjan has recorded and released 100 Christmas songs. While some of those are classics revamped, he also has some impressive originals - including this awesomely named one.
4. Kanye West - "Christmas in Harlem"
5. Saturday Night Live - "I Wish it Was Christmas Today"
This is fantastic. That's all that needs to be said about this one.
And if you find yourself in the Upper Valley after Christmas looking for one more dose of Holiday cheer, swing by the Skinny Pancake in Hanover on December 29th for a very special Say Darling Holiday Show with Norwich native Celia Woodsmith!
