Police spent an hour investigating incident after bus pulled off at Exit 18 rest area

LEBANON, NH - A fist fight between two Mascoma High School seniors brought police and firefighters out onto Interstate 89 shortly after 11 a.m. Friday morning to sort through the situation.

One of the pair of 17-year-old male students was treated inside a Lebanon Fire ambulance at the scene for a bloody nose he sustained in the incident and the other showed police a series of minor scrapes on his neck and arms but neither the bus driver nor any of the other approximately 20 students on board at the time were harmed, according to police.

"Words were said," noted New Hampshire State Police Trooper Mike Catalfamo who took over the investigation from Lebanon Police officers who'd arrived first because the altercation took place on the highway within the jurisdiction of the state police.  "What happened after that is what I am still trying to figure out," Catalfamo said.

The students were in the midst of returning from one of their regular excursions to the vocational technical center on the Hartford High School campus in White River Junction, Vermont where they attend several specialized classes when the fight suddenly broke out and the bus driver pulled over and called police reporting that one of the seniors was bleeding from his face.

Neither student was arrested and Trooper Catalfamo said that, while criminal charges are a possibility, what happens next will ultimately depend on what he hears after he has a chance to interview other students who were on the bus at the time and, because of the age of the boys, he said it "will also depend on their parents" who will be involved in the disposition of the case as well.
