Mandy Lape-Freeberg has been named the new Senior Pastor for The Church of Christ at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH. She comes to the Dartmouth College campus church from Old South Church, UCC in Windsor, VT where she served as pastor for 17 years.
"The search committee received over 70 applications from strong candidates in all corners of the United States, but as luck would have it, our strongest applicant lived just down the road, " said Jay Benson, Chair of the church's 9-member search committee.
"Our church has a vibrant congregation that is active both in personal faith formation and in social justice," shared Trish Jackson, church president. "Mandy has demonstrated leadership skills, intellect, and a shared vision for a progressive Christian community in today's complicated world - making her a perfect fit."
Reverend Lape-Freeberg holds a Master's of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary, Decatur, GA and has experience as an associate, a solo pastor, a college chaplain, a prison chaplain, and as a leading voice in the Vermont Conference of the United Church of Christ. An ordained Presbyterian minister, she has been serving in the United Church of Christ since 2000 through a special privilege of call agreement.
"As we welcome the Advent season, I look forward to meeting current members of the Church of Christ and those in the broader community," shared Lape-Freeberg. "The vitality of this church community is impressive, and I look forward to building upon the great programs in place, working together to move the church forward."
The church's holiday calendar features activities for all including a Christmas dinner for students and community members, a "hanging of the greens" on Friday, December 1, a service of lessons of carols, a pageant complete with "sheep" and "cows" and an Advent sermon series - Do Not Be Afraid.
Reverend Lape-Freeberg will build upon the ministry and leadership provided by Senior Pastor Carla Bailey who served the Church of Christ at Dartmouth College for nineteen years - from 1996-2015.
"The church's membership comes from a rich variety of denominational backgrounds," said Lape-Freeberg. "Embracing individual members, strengthening our community through events and groups, and working with students through campus ministry will be key parts of my daily work."
