I am thrilled to announce our upcoming exhibition "The Art of Place" by Helen Shulman.
Please join us December 1st from 5:30-7:30pm for the opening reception.
Eroded surface textures and traces of color reveal deeper layers below. This expression of fleeting material is both nostalgic and captivating.
“Art of Place” is an exhibit of mostly smaller works each reflecting a reaction to or feeling about a particular place. These places may in my external life or they may expresses internal states.
I find myself reacting to upheavals in the world as well as those in my personal life by experiencing places intensely and vividly. I see my desire to hold on to things that I must release and tentatively grasping those I must embrace. Making images allows me a modicum of control over and expression of this ongoing and never ending push-pull.
As they pass through the various stages of coming together and falling apart until they finally become resolved, they bring me to a place where I can drop my shoulders, take a deep breath and let down my hair. I hope they’ll do the same for viewers.
"Art of Place" will run from December 1st to February 1st.
The opening reception will be accompanied by a wine tasting with Artisanal Cellars- tis the season for wonderful sparklings and delicious reds. We will taste some varietals that will be perfect for enjoying with friends, family and wonderful meals over the holidays!
We hope you can join us December 1st for a delightful evening at Scavenger!
