Pistol waving shoplifter in Jiffy Mart at The Fort truck stop off Exit 18 in Lebanon
Police looking for public's help in identifying man
LEBANON - A confrontation with a suspected shoplifter at 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning at the Jiffy Mart convenience store which shares a building with The Fort restaurant at the truck stop on Heater Road just off Exit 18 took an angry turn when the suspect pulled out a pistol and menaced the clerk, Lebanon Police are reporting.
Police said the incident began when the clerk was busy in another area of the store and then noticed the man had walked behind the front counter and appeared to have taken and concealed a pack of cigarettes.
"The store clerk confronted the subject regarding the cigarettes, at which time the male removed a black pistol from under his sweatshirt and laid it on the counter. When the clerk told the male he was going to call the police, the male brandished the pistol," police said in a press release, adding, "As the clerk called the police, the male exited the store on foot toward Route 120 and could not be located."
