Why PLAID? Small businesses want to shift the day-after-Thanksgiving-shopping-spree spotlight from the big box stores to local merchants who support the community all year long. The day has been known as Black Friday because it is supposed to be the day the red ink on the accounting ledger turns to black. For small businesses this is not always the story as they often see-saw back and forth financially throughout the year. So to change the narrative from focussing purely on the bottom line, someone creative came up with Plaid Friday to replace Black Friday. A plaid has many colored threads interwoven to make a whole cloth just as our communities are made up of diverse individuals working together for the greater whole. We invite you to wear a little plaid to show your support when you explore what the local businesses have to offer on Friday, November 24.
