Thyme Restaurant: A Final Touch

Thyme Restaurant in White River Junction. It’s the same, and a little different. Four months ago, owner Eileen McGuckin put into play her decision to give Tip Top Cafe a bit of a facelift and a new name. 

Thyme’s outdoor terrace, an option for warmer times. For winter, the inside is urban chic and cozy.

McGuckin, who had worked at the restaurant for several  years before assuming ownership in 2013,  believed that the term “cafe” was too casual for a place that leaned more toward fine dining destination than coffee shop. And she wanted a name of her own choosing.

There was some redecorating, a change of color scheme, the name Thyme on reprinted menus. And now, the final touch: the signs of Thyme, on those big, bold windows that face the street, on the Tip Top Building listings in the parking lot, on the official directional road signs on Route 5 in Wilder and of course, in White River Junction. There is even a newly named website,

McGuckin is happy with the name change, as are most of the patrons. She wants to assuage the fears of some who believed the name change meant new ownership. Not so. Eileen McGuckin and her team are still there. The locally-sourced menu changes with the seasons. Favorites, like the irresistable fries, remain always.
