Quechee man brought toddler along on trip to Lebanon to allegedly pick up teenage girl for sex
Lebanon Police put together fast moving sting operation
WEST LEBANON - A Quechee, Vermont man has been charged with bringing his 2-year-old child with him in his car to what police said he believed was going to be a sexual encounter with a 15-year-old girl at a baseball field on Halloween.
James Taylor, 25, was arrested and charged with attempted felonious sexual assault, prohibited uses of a computer, and a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child before he was held on $20,000 bail pending an arraignment scheduled for Thursday at the Grafton County Superior Court in North Haverhill.
Police said Thursday that the child endangerment charge was filed because Taylor brought his child with him during what was allegedly an attempt to commit a crime. The child was turned over to its mother following Taylor's arrest.
Lebanon Police Chief Richard Mello said the arrest came about as the result of a tip that was submitted to his department's on-line tip site at www.LebanonNH.gov/CLUE flagging up an advertisement on Craigslist that seemed to be soliciting young and possible underaged girls for sex.
Detectives posing as a 15-year-old girl engaged the author of the post in an on-line conversation and then arrested Taylor when he subsequently showed up at the baseball field on Halloween.
