Burlington woman led Border Patrol on a chase just this Friday

LEBANON - A 20-year-old Burlington, Vermont woman who allegedly tried to steal a car in front of Lebanon Middle School at 7:30 a.m. on Monday morning by pulling a parent out of his vehicle as he was dropping his children off for class has also been involved in a series of other bizarre incidents across Vermont in recent days.

Sarah Pavia was arrested by police in Lebanon shortly after the 38-year-old father called dispatchers and reported that he had fought off a woman who was attempting to take his vehicle, which still had his two children in it at the time.

Police caught up with Pavia on Dartmouth College Highway but said she ran off on foot as they were attempting to talk to her and then she allegedly attempted to get into the driver's seat of a police cruiser.

She was arrested following a brief struggle with police and then allegedly gave a false name, address and date of birth during the booking process at the Lebanon Police Department.

While police were trying to figure out what was going on, they learned that Pavia had allegedly stolen a vehicle Sunday night in Burlington, Vermont and then rolled it over on Interstate 89 in Lebanon before abandoning the heavily damaged vehicle and leaving the scene of the accident on foot.  The car was not discovered until after sun up on Monday morning when a passerby noticed it and reported it to police.

Pavia was also the focus of a police pursuit on Friday afternoon that began with a motor vehicle stop near the Highgate Port of Entry just shy of the Canadian border when agents with United States Customs and Border Protection and the Border Patrol pulled her over on suspicion of drunk driving.

Agents said Pavia drove off after they initially stopped her, beginning a pursuit southbound down Interstate 89 that was soon joined by the Vermont State Police and only ended at Mile Marker 127 after police put spike strips down in her path.

Vermont State Police troopers ended up charging Pavia with driving under the influence of drugs along with an accompanying charge of careless & negligent operation of a vehicle before they released her later that evening with a citation to appear in court in Franklin County late next month to answer the charges.

Lebanon Police have charged Pavia with felony counts of attempted robbery, receiving stolen property and attempted theft.  During her arraignment Tuesday in New Hampshire Pavia was also charged with four misdemeanor offenses: Resisting arrest, conduct after an accident, criminal mischief, and making a false report to law enforcement.

Sarah Pavia, 20, of Burlington, Vermont is now facing multiple charges in two states
