Norwich's Visioneers Screen Students
Seven Norwich Lions (Richard Neugass, Steve Flanders, Ciaran Garaghty, Phil Wheeler, Donna Wheeler, Debbie Bernal, Peter Stanzel and Gary De Gasta), two Springfield Lions (Joe Wilson and Woody Stoddard) and community volunteer Donna Wheeler donated more than 50 hours of time to complete vision screening three Hartford Schools in October.
The Spot Vision Screener (SPOT) is a hand held, portable device designed to help users quickly and easily detect vision issues on patients from 6 months of age through adult. SPOT screens both eyes at once from a nonthreatening 3-foot distance. It can be used for vision screening or auto-refraction. It identifies students who may need follow-up testing by a vision professional.

The Lions tested 639 students (plus 1 adult). Fifty-three students needed referrals to a vision professional.
