THE HARTFORD DINER IS NO MORE
Hartford Eyesore and Safety Hazard Comes Down
The Hartford Diner is no more. Commuters crossing the White River via the VA Cutoff Road this afternoon no longer needed to inch onto Route 14 with the fear of being broadsided by an unseen vehicle heading east.
The structure is a pile of debris; excavating equipment remains at the site.
According to the Valley News, in an article dated April 7, 2017, owner Marc Wood was ordered by an Environmental Court judge to remove the structure and a retaining wall made of concrete slabs, and pay the Town of Hartford $20,000 for the latest legal fees incurred by the town. The town had previously been awarded $60,000 in legal fees from Wood in 2012.
The legal battle over the historic diner has been waged between Wood and Hartford for over 17 years.
