A Message about Halloween from the Hanover Police Department

With Halloween soon approaching, the Hanover Police Department would like to remind the community to be safe during fall festivities, especially for those who will be attending evening events or plan on trick-or-treating. Halloween, which is celebrated on Oct. 31, falls on a Tuesday this year. Police remind residents to use caution as they celebrate this time of the year. Parents and children should be aware of their surroundings always when trick-or-treating.

The Hanover Police Department recommends the following safety tips for Halloween:

➢ Avoid trick-or-treating alone. Walk in groups or with a trusted adult.

➢ See something? Say something

➢ Examine all treats for choking hazards and tampering before you eat them.

➢ Hold a flashlight while walking to ensure that you are visible. ➢ Look both ways before crossing the street and use designated crosswalks wherever possible.

➢ Only walk on sidewalks wherever possible, or on the far edge of the road facing traffic to stay safe and to prevent accidents or injury.

➢ Only visit well-lit houses.

➢ NEVER accept rides from strangers.

Any parents or residents with questions on Halloween safety are asked to contact the Hanover Police Department at (603) 643-2222.
