ROYALTON, VT - A blazing car fire right at Mile Marker 21 northbound reduced Interstate 89 to one lane for about an hour mid-afternoon on Thursday while South Royalton's volunteer firefighters brought the situation under control.
Vermont State Police said the fire which consumed the 1998 Toyota Camry belonging to Salam Mashi of Concord, New Hampshire appeared to have begun in the engine compartment before it completely engulfed and destroyed the vehicle.
Sgt. Eric Hudson said that Mashi was safely over on a nearby embankment when he arrived on the scene shortly after 3 p.m. and was completely uninjured.
