Canes Improve to 4-1 with 4th Straight Win

By John Seaver

In a sloppy & penalty filled game, Hartford piled up over 400 yards of offense and scored 56 points against the Colonels from Brattleboro Friday night at Hanley Field.  The 56-33 win was the Canes 4th straight to improve their record to 4-1 on the season.

The Canes got off to a fast start as Tyler Hamilton hit Riley Packard with a pass on the games opening play.

The Canes built a 32-7 half time lead on 3 TD runs by Hunter Perkins and a 25 yard TD pass from Tyler Hamilton to Austin Gaudette.

Nick Porter had another good night rushing with several long runs.  This one for 71 yards (he probably ran over 100 yards with all the zig zags)

Hunter Perkins ran well all night with some tough yards up the middle.

Sophmore Zachery Burek turned in a solid performance on both sides of the ball.  On the first drive of the second half, he sacked Colonel QB Tyler Millerick causing a fumble that popped right into Perkins arms.  The fumble set up a Kody Rhodes 12 yard TD and extended the Canes lead to 40-7.  Burek also saw some time at RB and had several impressive runs.

Kody Rhodes had 3 TD's on the night, one TD catch and two TD runs.

Most of the Hartford penalties occurred on defensive side which allowed Brattleboro to move the ball and actually outscore Hartford 26-24 in the 2nd half.  On the penalties Hartford head coach Matt Trombly was concerned.  "Our inexperience was very evident tonight.  We let our emotions get the best of us which could have cost us the game." Trombly added "We need to do a better job representing Hartford football."

Extra Point - Hartford converted on 7 of 7 two point tries likely spelling the end of the 1 point extra point kick this season.

Category 5 Hurricane Player of the Game: Zachary Burek.  His quickness was effective at DE chasing QB Millerick all night, causing a fumble with a sack and also was very effective running the ball.  Look for more opportunities to come Zach's way in the coming games.

Next up for Hartford is a home game vs unbeaten BFA St Albans next Friday night.
