Insurance 101: with Ken Parker

Step 1: Gather as much information as possible from the other party, investigating law enforcement officials, and witnesses regarding the accident before you call.  It’s not necessary to call from the scene of an accident.

Step 2: Find your claims number. This is usually found on your insurance ID card.

Step 3: Call your agent, or, the insurance company’s claims hotline.  Calm yourself down, and place the call as soon as it’s convenient to do so.

Remember this:  Make NO admission as to fault, and don’t assume any responsibility for damages done, at the scene of the accident

The details as to who’s responsible for the accident, who’s insurance carrier will pay for damages or injuries sustained, and how ancillary losses such as rental vehicles, loss of income, etc., will be determined by the insurance carriers and investigating officials in due course.
