Guitarist/singer leads his band in a joyful evening of lovesick ballads and tropical dance tunes

Joan Soriano was born in the countryside near Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic and fashioned his first guitar from fishing line and a discarded metal box. Today, he is a renowned master of bachata—the African- and Spanish-based soul music known as Dominican Blues.

“When you hear Soriano’s raw interpretation of bachata,” raved NPR, “you can’t help but wonder how such a beautiful sound was kept quiet for so long.”
