Colby, 14, and Tucker, 12, Sanville have been spending the last six winters and many summers in Quechee with their parents, Tim and Lynn, and their dog, Summer.

The Sanville family is based in Wellesley, MA; however Tim and Lynn had been regularly vacationing in Woodstock before having children, so they were familiar with the Quechee and Woodstock area.

In January of 2011, they decided to rent a condo in Lakeland Village as a family, where they fell in love with the snow-covered countryside and decided that having a place in Quechee would be the perfect vacation spot for their family.

It turns out that they were right. Not only has the Sanville family enjoyed the last several years together for simpler reasons, but both Tucker and Colby are excellent golfers, and Colby is quite competitive in the game, and he also just finished his second year as an aggressive skier as a U14 racer on the Quechee Ski Team, training with some of the best coaches in the area.

A passion for golf…

Of course, like many of the best young players out there, the boys didn’t start with trainers and camps, Colby and Tucker were out with both Tim and Lynn, hitting golf balls in Massachusetts before they were four years old. It’s often those early years on a course (or field, or in front of a net) with a parent that instills such a strong love of the sport. It’s clear that both Lynn and Tim have helped nurture that passion in their sons, for instance when asked what he liked most about golf Tucker says, “Having fun.” That’s an answer that should make any parent proud.

Both Colby and Tucker participated in Johnny McCosker’s training camps for junior golfers at Quechee when they were younger, and enjoy the times they run into him on the range or the putting green. “I had the chance to take lessons with TJ [TJ Anthoine is Quechee’s Director of Golf], and play nine with Dustin [Perry]this summer, and both make golf so enjoyable,” says Colby.

Tournaments are always fun, and each one has participated in some. Colby and Tucker have done the Quechee Parent-Junior Tournament and the Quechee Junior Club Championship. Colby has become a very ambitious player in the sport. He just started playing in the NEPGA Tour and has started to caddie in Wellesley, MA.

… And a passion for skiing

If that wasn’t exciting enough, Tucker and Colby have both been on the Quechee Ski Team since 2012. The boys started skiing with their dad when they were young, at the Nashoba Valley Ski Area, in Westford, MA, and both were thrilled when they got to have a place with a “hill” to call home. They were out skiing on the Quechee Ski Hill immediately.

Colby just finished his second year as a U14 racer on the Quechee Ski Team. He says he “loves the adrenaline and thrill that he gets from his ski racing experiences.” Recently, Tucker has decided to become more of a recreational skier, although he does enjoy joining the team for their vacation week training.

Aside from golfing and skiing, Tucker and Colby enjoy tennis, swimming, biking, and hiking throughout the local area, and taking trips to Killington, Stowe, and Okemo. Tucker finds life and his experiences here, “unbelievable” and for Colby, it has been “relaxing and chill.”

Put together, that’s some pretty great praise and a fantastic description of life in the Upper Valley.
