Piermont man arrested in Lebanon sexting sting
Detectives pretended to be an underaged girl
LEBANON, NH - Police say that 56-year-old Piermont man allegedly thought he was on his way to have a sexual encounter with a 15-year-old girl when he was arrested earlier this week in the parking lot of a local store.
Mark Hewes, who identifies himself as a Hanover High School graduate on his Facebook page, has been charged with felony counts of attempted felonious sexual assault and prohibited uses of computer services. His bail was set at $20,000 and he was transported to the Grafton House of Corrections pending his arraignment.
Lebanon Police said in a press release issued Friday that, as an affiliate of the New Hampshire Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (NHICAC), they have been conducting investigations over social media in an effort to target individuals who appear to be looking to victimize children.
"Recently, Lebanon Police Officers engaged in a conversation via social media with a male who was later identified as Mark Hewes, age 56, of Piermont, New Hampshire," police announced, "The conversation was sexual in nature and led to Hewes arriving in the parking lot of a local store to meet a person, whom he believed to be a 15- year-old female, for the purpose of sexual contact."
