Stabbing leads to arrest in parking lot at Staples Plaza in West Lebanon
Suspect is from Vermont
WEST LEBANON, NH - A Hancock, Vermont man is under arrest following a fight inside a car that police say escalated into a stabbing just before 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning in the parking lot in front of Ziggy's Pizza.
The victim, a 32-year-old Lebanon man whose name was not released by police, was treated at the scene by a Lebanon Fire ambulance crew for what were described as "superficial" lacerations he sustained to his hands and legs during the altercation before he was released at the scene.
Lebanon Police poured into the parking lot which runs between Pier One Imports and the large Staple box store trying to find witnesses in the immediate aftermath of the incident.
"We got called down for a report of an altercation between two males here in the parking lot. One of the males then ran across the parking lot to Burger King and he was over in a vehicle in the Burger King parking lot," when police caught up to him as he was attempting to flee the area and took him into custody, Lebanon Police Detective Rich Smolenski explained.
"The victim was here with a female and she had her own car. It sounds like the altercation started in a vehicle and kind of spilled out onto the ground and then the suspect ran," Smolenski said, noting that a number of people saw at least part of the incident take place because the parking lot also serves the Habit OPCO methadone clinic which has a lot of people coming and going at the beginning of the day.
"We've got some witnesses who heard a lot of yelling and heard a commotion and heard someone shouting 'He's trying to stab me!'," Smolenski noted.

Police arrested Robert Walker, 34, of Hancock, Vermont and said that Walker knew the victim and had allegedly followed him to the plaza at 254 Plainfield Road after Walker "observed the victim with a former girlfriend" of Walker's.
Walker then "confronted the victim while he was seated in the passenger seat of a vehicle," Lebanon Police said in a prepared statement, explaining that Walker "began to punch the victim through the passenger side of the vehicle and then
produced a folding knife, with which he began to stab at the victim. The injuries
sustained by the victim were defensive in nature."
Walker is being charged with felony counts of first degree and second degree assault and criminal threatening. He was transported to the Grafton County House of Corrections pending an arraignment which is now scheduled to take place Friday in the Grafton County Superior Court.
