Chelsea man allegedly tried to arrange encounter with Lebanon juvenile
Police were waiting instead
LEBANON, NH - A 72-year-old Chelsea, Vermont man is facing several felony charges after police say he travelled to Lebanon on Thursday for what he allegedly thought was going to be a sexual encounter involving a juvenile and another adult.
Instead of meeting up with an underaged person, Erik Polson was approached by undercover Lebanon police officers and arrested.
The Lebanon Police Department is an affiliate of the New Hampshire Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and Police Chief Richard Mello said in a statement that in recent weeks his department "has been conducting investigations through social media providers (including Craigslist.com) targeting individuals who were looking to victimize children."
In recent days, Lebanon's investigators engaged in a conversation via social media with a male who was later identified as Polson, according to the statement, which said that Polson allegedly thought he was arranging for sexual contact with a juvenile and an adult.
Polson has been charged with felony counts of conspiracy to commit trafficking in persons and conspiracy to commit certain prohibited uses of computer services. His bail was set at $20,000 cash before he was transported to the Grafton County House of Corrections.
