Jacob McAllister chased down and arrested
Suspect in numerous burglaries along Route 5
WESTMINSTER, VT - Two days after his girlfriend was arrested in connection with a string of business burglaries that took place in July along Route 5, a Westminster man was spotted by police on the Back Westminster Road and taken into custody.
Police said that when Jacob McAllister, 25, spotted the police shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday he initially tried to run but they rapidly caught up with him and arrested him, Detective Corporal Brian Berry said in a statement released later Thursday afternoon.
McAllister was taken to the Westminster State Police Barracks for processing and charged with 10 felony counts of burglary, along with a slate of lesser charges, before he was lodged at the Springfield jail to await his formal arraignment which is scheduled for Friday afternoon at the Windham County Courthouse in downtown Brattleboro.
McAllister's girlfriend, Chelsea Ovaitte, 22, of Springfield was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the same crime spree and at the time of her arrest Detective Berry said police believe the couple had broken into businesses in Westminster, Putney and Brattleboro, obtaining a "significant amount of money" in the process and using it "to support (their) heroin addiction."
Jacob McAllister, 25, of Westminster is expected to face 10 felony burglary charges
