Motorcyclist severely injured on Route 5 South in Windsor
Police say man is from Windsor area
WINDSOR, VT - A local man suffered a severe "life-threatening" leg injury Friday afternoon when his motorcycle left Route 5 south of downtown Windsor and went a considerable distance over an embankment.
Passersby, including at least one nurse, did an "amazing job" of applying a tourniquet and performing first aid measures until Windsor's emergency services were able to reach the scene around 4:30 p.m., according to a witness.
The man, whose name was not immediately released by police because of the severity of his injuries, was taken by a Windsor Ambulance crew to Mount Ascutney Hospital's helipad and then immediately transferred to a waiting DHART medical helicopter which airlifted him to the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
Windsor police said they hoped to be able to release more information about the accident later Friday evening.
