Enfield Armed Robbery Suspect Captured in Downtown Lebanon
Spotted walking along Hanover Street just before noon
LEBANON, NH - A South Carolina man has been arrested in connection with Wednesday evening's series of high-speed pursuits along Route 4 as well as an attempted robbery of the Family Dollar in Enfield and a foot chase through the woods around Exit 17 that lasted until the early hours of this morning.
Shortly before noon today, Lebanon Police received a report of a suspicious man walking along Hanover Street in downtown Lebanon and several officers responded and determined that he matched the description given in the wake of the previous evening's attempted armed robbery.
Michael Ray Laws, 32, of Myrtle Beach was arrested on the spot and is now due in court Friday to answer felony charges of attempted robbery and receiving stolen property as well as misdemeanor counts of disobeying an officer, reckless driving, and possession of marijuana in a vehicle.
Police determined that Laws is also wanted in South Carolina which had put out a nationwide warrant for his arrest charging him with first degree criminal sexual misconduct.
The black Honda that Laws was believed to have been driving last night when he led officers from Enfield, Canaan, Danbury, and Lebanon on a rapid series of 90-plus mile per hour pursuits along Route 4 before bailing out of it just before 10 p.m. at the intersection of Dartmouth College Highway and Laplante Road, a short distance east of the Lebanon Middle School, was seized early Thursday morning and searched.
Police said they found a "replica handgun" inside the Honda. The car itself had been reported stolen on Monday from a car dealer's lot in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Laws refused the services of a bail commissioner and is being held at the Grafton County House of Corrections pending his formal arraignments which are scheduled to take place on Friday at the Grafton Superior Court.
