Murder for Hire plot uncovered in Plainfield
Mother and son to be arraigned today in Claremont
PLAINFIELD, NH - An announcement late Thursday evening by Police Chief Paul Roberts and State Police Colonel Christopher Wagner that an elderly woman and her adult son were arrested as part of what is being described as an on-going investigation into a Murder For Hire plot is shocking the otherwise sleepy rural community.
Maurice Temple, 63, and his mother Pauline Chase, 83, (formerly Pauline Temple) who both reside on Old County Road were taken into custody on Thursday and they are both due in court in Claremont Friday for arraignment on charges of conspiracy to commit murder, solicitation to commit murder and attempted murder.
Temple has operated an excavating business from his property for almost 40 years and had a brother (who died in 2013) who once worked as a part-time police officer in Plainfield decades ago.
Police credited "an extensive investigation and cooperative effort" conducted by the Plainfield Police Department as well as the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office Drug Task Force, State Police Troop C, State Police Major Crime Unit, and the Sullivan County Attorney’s Office for the arrests.
Anyone with information about the investigation is requested to contact Chief Paul Roberts, who is leading the investigation, at (603) 469-3344.
Maurice Temple, 63, of Plainfield, NH was arrested on Thursday
Pauline Chase, 83, who was previously married to Bob Temple, is facing the same serious charges as her son
