UPDATED: Fatal motorcycle accident near Weathersfield recreation area
Weathersfield resident was killed in mishap
WEATHERSFIELD, VT - The body of a motorcyclist was discovered early this morning near the scene of an apparent crash on Stoughton Pond Road, which leads up to the recreation area above the North Springfield Dam and the nearby Hartness State Airport.
UPDATE: State Police have now released the identity of the victim. He is Dale Porter, 54, of Weathersfield.
Shortly before 3 a.m. Thursday Vermont State Police Trooper Eric Vitali responded to a report of a motorcycle lying in the roadway with no one around but soon after arriving he found the driver's body.
Trooper Vitali said conditions were wet with light rain falling at the time and it appeared that Porter initially went off the roadway and struck a culvert hard enough to break the handlebars on his 2002 Titan motorcycle, detaching the seat and ejecting him from the bike before it travelled back up onto the pavement and came to a rest.
Police said Porter was wearing his helmet at the time of the crash.
