I love Vital Communities and the services it offers the Upper Valley to help live healthy and shop local. This summer Vital Communities started a new program called Power of Produce (POP) which is geared towards kids making healthy food choices.

What it Is and How to Participate

Kids ages 5-12 can participate just once or throughout the summer by finding the POP Club table at the market and sign up to participate in various activities at the market: test tasting, scavenger hunt, art project, quiz for a farmer, and more.  After completing the daily activity, children receive $POP bucks that they can spend on items at the market.

Benefits for Kids

This program gives kids and active role.  They get to learn, have fun, feel included, and certainly feel independent.  One mom said her son learned about making thoughtful choices based on what he wanted and the amount of POP bucks he had.  You can read more about what the Royalton POP program is like and how kids make informed choices here.  I think this is a wonderful program that provides kids an opportunity to learn about where their produce comes from and how it's grown, as well as teaches important life skills in a fun way.
