Firefighter Works at NH Motor Speedway to Raise Money for CHaD
Donates Proceeds to Help Buy Toys
CLAREMONT, NH--As a child, Claremont resident, businessman and firefighter Nick Koloski received care at the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock (CHaD) for his eyes, care that included surgeries when he was 8 years old. Grateful ever since, especially for the stuffed toys that helped him during his hospital stays, Koloski has been working hard to pay back the care he received by helping to supply stuffed toys to the children’s hospital. He recently arranged for a delivery of 600 stuffed toys to the facility, paid for by his firefighter’s stipend, but for Koloski, that was not going to be enough. Following that delivery, he immediately began thinking of other ways to donate more stuffed toys to CHaD.
This past weekend, Koloski was in Loudon serving as a member of the pit road fire suppression team at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, with the goal of donating what he earned to help pay for more toys.
“The experience was hot. Very warm in a fire suit,” said Koloski, who co-owns Time-Out Americana Grill in Claremont with his mother, Mary, and also serves on the Claremont City Council. “Well worth it, though, for the chance to highlight the continual year long need for stuffed animals and toys to CHaD. Worked alongside some great firefighters from all over New England. On Sunday I was covering the pit of Danika Patrick and Chase Elliot. Jeff Gordon sitting next to me most of the day.
“As soon as fuel comes out, we are to be in a suit ready to go. We are assigned a pit but are to act in either direction of us in the event of fire. The suit, helmet and gloves are very warm in the hot sun. I've done it before for years over 15 years ago. I just had the opportunity to come back and help out with coverage and highlight the need for comfort providing stuffed animals to CHaD. That was all the pride this weekend.”
Anyone who would like to help out CHaD with this cause is invited to send their gift directly to the children’s hospital, payable to DHH-CHaD, by mailing it to the Community Relations Office, One Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03756 to have it earmarked for this cause.
