Angry man shuts down Route 113 in Post Mills with shotgun blasts
Thetford Police arrest suspect in apartment above Baker's General Store
THETFORD, VT - Multiple shotgun blasts were let off during a family fight that spiraled out of control in an apartment above Baker's General Store early Monday evening forcing police to temporarily close down Route 113 in the hamlet of Post Mills, Thetford Police Chief Michael Evans wrote in a release issued Tuesday.
Thetford Police responded to the landmark store near the intersection of Routes 113 and 244 shortly before 8 p.m. Monday evening for a reported domestic disturbance in an upstairs apartment.
"While police were en route, it was reported that the subject had fired multiple shots from a shotgun on the back deck of the apartment, shooting over the rear portion of the store's parking lot," Chief Evans wrote.
Stuart Hammond, 49, of Thetford was taken into custody without incident and then transported to the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon for evaluation.
Hammond was subsequently cited to appear at the Orange County Superior Courthouse in Chelsea on July 26th to answer charges of domestic assault, reckless endangerment, and disorderly conduct.
"This matter remains under investigation and additional charges are possible," Chief Evans noted.
