NH 12U Cal Ripken State Tourney: Wednesday, July 5 Recap
Big rematch for Lebanon and Newmarket on Thursday night
It was another beautiful night for baseball in the Upper Valley. Spectators were treated to two good games between the final four teams in the NH 12U 60ft Cal Ripken State Tournament as they squared off on Wednesday night. At Smith Field, in the first semi-final of the tourney, Three Rivers/Franklin defeated Newmarket 11-4.
Over at Logan Field, the Lebanon All-Star squad met Suncook Valley. Lebanon got on the board first with a solo home run from Sam Bates in the first inning. The Suncook Valley team had a second inning home run of their own, and tacked on one more for good measure.
But after being down 2-1 to start the 3rd inning, Lebanon scored 5 runs and tried to break away. Suncook Valley got 2 runs back in the bottom of the 3rd, and the score headed into the 4th inning was 6-4 Lebanon. After a scoreless 4th inning for both teams, Lebanon added one more run in the 5th and ended the night with another 5 run outburst in the 6th that Suncook Valley just couldn't match. Final score: Lebanon 12, Suncook Valley 4. Lebanon outhit Suncook Valley 7 to 5 in the game.
Celebrating Sam Bates' home run
Sam Bates had the hot bat, driving in four runs and hitting 3-for-4 on the night. In addition to the dinger in the first inning, he also had a single in the third, and a double in the sixth.
- Hits: Sam Bates (3); Zach Aldrich, Bodie Benoit, Ben Howland, Sawyer Weale (1).
- RBI: Sam Bates (4); Ben Howland, Sawyer Weale, Cayden Van Dolah (2); Bodie Benoit (1).
- Runs: Sam Bates (3); Zach Aldrich, Dawson Bates, Francis Calandrella, Cayden Van Dolah (2); Bodie Benoit (1).
- Pitching: Sam Bates, Dawson Bates and Dominic Petkus combined to strikeout 9 and walk 2. They allowed 5 hits over 6 innings of play.
Suncook Valley was eliminated from the tournament, and three teams remain in the run for a 12U NH title: Lebanon, Newmarket, and Three Rivers/Franklin.
NEXT UP: Lebanon meets Newmarket in the semi-finals of the tournament, which will be held at Smith Field at 5:30 PM on Thursday, July 6. The winner will play Three Rivers/Franklin in the Friday night Championship game. The losing team will be going home.
If Three Rivers/Franklin is defeated on Friday, then a final Championship game would take place on Saturday morning at 10 AM to determine who will represent NH in the New England Regional Cal Ripken Tournament held in MA later this month.
It would be great to have a big local crowd around to cheer on the great youth baseball action at one of the remaining games. Admission is free and the concession stand will be open. Hope to see you there!
Thanks again to Troy Shareiko for sharing the great photos!
